A unique golden boiler room with a transparent facade appeared on S. Radonezhsky Street in Moscow on the territory of a new office art cluster. The reinterpretation of historical buildings into art objects creates new points of attraction for the district. A unique golden boiler room has appeared in the Tagansky district of Moscow, in the loft quarter located on Sergiy Radonezhsky str., 15-17. The room, built in the late 1850s, initially performed a technical function, but in 1978 3 steam boilers with a steam capacity of 6.5 tons per hour were installed here. “Having started the redevelopment of the territory of the former pharmaceutical giant Moschimpharmparaty named after N. A. Semashko, an analysis of each structure of the site was carried out. They decided to leave the boiler room, but to completely replace the equipment with modern ones. It also became obvious that the building could become an art object: the building was painted gold, one wall was glazed, making it transparent so that visitors could see with their own eyes the internal processes of the heating system,” comments Ruben Arakelyan, head of the WALL architectural bureau. During the renovation work, the steam boilers were dismantled and replaced with modern equipment. Two RS-D 1500 gas boilers with a thermal capacity of 1.5 MW with a maximum gas consumption of 173 nm3/h each and two RS-A 100 gas boilers with a thermal capacity of 0.1 MW with a maximum gas consumption of 11.6 nm3/h each were installed. Initially, the estimated steam capacity of the boiler house was 19.5 tons/hour, as a result of technical re-equipment, its productivity increased to 2,752 Gcal/hour. “This project has become a real “golden” symbol of P.A.N.G.A.E.A. After the equipment was replaced, the building not only did not lose its functionality, but thanks to the use of modern technologies, it became an iconic point of the loft quarter. Its modernization also made it possible to carry out energy independence measures for heat supply systems and significantly reduce operating costs associated with gas payments,” comments Mikhail Lomtadze, CEO of BKL Real Estate. The loft block, located on an area of 18,000 square meters, is part of the global project of P.A.N.G.A.E.A fee–developer BKL Real Estate.
